Matildas star debuts new surname in heartwarming surprise: ‘A big moment for me’

Chloe Berryhill | Post-Match Interview | Western United v Adelaide United

It came as a surprise to all watching on at Ironbark Fields on Saturday afternoon when Western United star Chloe Berryhill (née Logarzo) came out to face Adelaide United with her new surname printed across the back of her kit.

No one was more taken aback than the Matildas midfielder’s wife, McKenzie Berryhill, who was sat in the stands in Tarneit, completely unaware of the surprise that was in store.

From now on, the gun midfielder who made her name in Australian football as Chloe Logarzo, will go by the name of Chloe Berryhill after marrying her now-wife McKenzie in November last year.

At full-time of Western’s 3-1 loss to Adelaide in the Ninja A-League, Berryhill explained to Network 10 how the plan had always been to change her surname – but not until the end of her playing career.

But, as Berryhill explained, the time was right to announce her new surname to the world in a touching gesture to her wife.

“A big moment for me,” Logarzo said.

“I had my wife in the stands, and I kept this a surprise. We always talked about how I wasn’t going to change my name from Logarzo to Berryhill until I retired, but I thought it was about time.

“I’m very proud and honoured to be wearing Berryhill. I’ll always be Logarzo at heart, I play with my name on my sleeve but it’s incredible to be able to do that with my wife in the stands, and I’m looking forward (to) the rest of my life with her.

“I feel very happy and honoured to be wearing it.”
