Chianese hoping to fly with The Robins

Swindon Town could soon have another Aussie on their books with former Sydney FC attacker Joel Chianese trailing with the English League One club.

Chianese, who was released by the Sky Blues at the end of the last Hyundai A-League season, is believed to be on a two-week trial at the club.

The Robins are the current home of Socceroos midfielder Massimo Luongo as well as Penrith-born left-back Brad Smith.

The 25-year-old flyer debuted for Sydney FC in 2011, going on to score 11 goals in 40 appearances.

He managed only 18 games last season, with a return of four goals as the Sky Blues were dumped out in the opening week of the finals.

New coach Graham Arnold opted not to re-sign Chianese, and he joined former Sky Blues skipper Mark Rudan’s NSW NPL club Sydney United 58.

Swindon have made a successful start to the new season, beating Scunthorpe 3-1 last weekend with Luongo scoring the opening goal.

The club also won through to the second round of the Capital One Cup with a midweek 2-1 win away at Luton Town.
