Sydney FC have announced the appointment of Daniel Barrett as the Sky Blues Westfield W-League Head Coach until the end of the Westfield W-League 2014 season.
Barrett, who acted as the Assistant Coach during Sydney FC’s Westfield W-League Championship win in season 2012/13, returns to the Sky Blues following his stint as Head Coach at the International Football School on the Central Coast.
He will work alongside current Westfield W-League Head Coach Alen Stajcic for the next fortnight before taking over full time duties for the Sky Blues round five clash away against the Newcastle Jets.
Sydney FC Chief Executive Officer Tony Pignata welcomed Barrett back to the club and believes he is the logical choice to transition over from long serving Head Coach Alen Stajcic.
“I’d like to welcome Daniel back to Sydney FC,” Pignata said.
“He has already proved himself with the club during his previous time here and I believe he is the perfect fit to take over from Alen Stajcic.
“He was an integral part of our Championship winning team and comes highly recommended by Alen.
“I’m looking forward to working with Daniel and I wish him all the best for the remainder of the Westfield W-League 2014 season.”
Departing Westfield W-League Head Coach Alen Stajcic backed the appointment of Barrett and believes he has the qualities necessary to deliver silverware to Sydney FC
“It’s great to have someone like Dan come into the team,” he said.
“Having already worked as an assistant with the team for two years, he is well versed in the philosophy and playing style of the group and has great energy to take the team to the top again.”
Barrett said he was thrilled to be returning to Sydney FC and he is eager to get back out on the park with a number of familiar faces from his previous tenure at the Sky Blues.
“It feels great to be back,” he said.
“When you leave Sydney FC you miss it, the whole culture of the club and the Sky Blues family. I enjoyed my time there and I can’t wait to start work.
“There are many familiar faces which is great because it means I can hit the ground running,” he continued.
“The standards have been set at Sydney FC with Alen Stajcic and his time in charge.
“I’m well aware of what they are having worked with Alen for many years, so I want to make sure that those standards and expectations stay the same. If they do then results will stay the same.
“I would also like to thank the International Football School for their understanding in allowing me to pursue this opportunity.”
Barrett will assist Head Coach Alen Stajcic in Sydney FC’s next Westfield W-League match away to the Western Sydney Wanderers on Saturday 27 September.
