The 21-year old didn’t make an appearance until January after picking up a foot injury in pre-season.

Speaking to media after his stunning individual performance in the 6-1 rout, Champness said the only thing he can do is focus on what’s ahead.

“It’s something you have to wipe away,” Champness said.

“It happens playing football, injuries are going to come and you have to bounce back and that’s what I’m looking to do everyday.

“It happened and it’s just one of those things that you’ve just got to deal with…now it’s all about looking forward and finishing the season on a high note.”

The Jets shocked many by running in six goals at Suncorp Stadium with an inability to find the back of the net a key reason as to their absence from the Hyundai A-League 2018/19 Finals Series.

With the pressure now off their shoulders, Champness said the thumping win was something to take into next season.

“It was a good feeling, good result for the team we were able to get back to our goal scoring ways in a sense and get the result which was positive,” he said.

“That’s what we’re looking to do, finish the season on a high and really perform for our fans who have stuck by us this season.

“It feels really good, it gives everyone confidence to play their game and looking ahead to next season…it’s a good feeling for the team.

“It feels good on a personal level to get my conditioning up and get minutes on the park. It was a good team performance, all the boys performed really well and stuck to our roles.”
