Celtic sign Rogic on long-term deal

Celtic have confirmed the signing of midfielder Tomas Rogic from Central Coast Mariners on a four-and-a-half-year deal.

Celtic have confirmed the signing of midfielder Tomas Rogic from Central Coast Mariners on a four-and-a-half-year deal.

The 20-year-old has been on trial with the club on their recent trip to Spain and will join the Scottish champions.

A host of Premier League clubs, including QPR and Reading, were also said to be keen on the player but Celtic have snapped up Rogic, who has four international caps to his name.

“We are delighted to announce the signing of Australian Tom Rogic on a four-and-a-half year deal, subject to a work permit,” Celtic said in a statement.

“The club can confirm an application will be made to the appropriate authorities in the next couple of days.”

Rogic has made 24 appearances for the Mariners, scoring five goals.

Mariners coach Graham Arnold has said he’s already got players he believes can step in for the talented midfielder.
“I’ve got plenty of choices to fill Tommy’s spot,” Arnold told Sydney’s Daily Telegraph.

“He’s already missed five games this season through national team duties and suspension. We won four and drew one of them.

“There is Michael McGlinchey, Daniel McBreen, Adriano Pellegrino and young Anthony Caceres, and I’ll spend the next 24 hours thinking over the best way to put the team together.

“But Anthony is definitely an exciting prospect. I’d say he has as much technical ability as Tom. He’s young but I think I’ve shown by now that I’ve got no qualms about throwing kids in if I think they’re up to it.”
