Celeski sent a shudder through the club on Tuesday morning when he fell to the ground in agony during a training session at Olympic Park, clutching the same knee which he had reconstructed last September.
Training was called to a halt and the 25-year-old got up and limped from the field. While the immediate feeling was that he had suffered a serious injury, Celeski was able to walk without a limp within hours of the incident and was said to be in good spirits as he headed off to get the injury assessed.
Team-mates Adrian Leijer and Matthew Foschini both Twittered that Celeski was fine, but the club said it wouldn-t make any further comment until the extent of the injury was known.
Having returned to the field in the pre-season, Celeski played in both Victory’s first two matches, scoring a goal in the 3-3 draw with Sydney FC in the grand final rematch and also playing in last weekend’s 2-0 loss to Perth Glory.
And while fellow midfielder Carlos Hernandez was cleared of a serious injury to his right knee, suffered in the AAMI Park defeat to the Glory, the Costa Rican sat out the session on Tuesday putting in doubt his chances of playing against North Queensland Fury on Sunday.
Meanwhile, Melbourne have signed Englishman Geoff Kellaway as an injury replacement player for Matthew Kemp.
Kellaway, a left-sided midfielder, has impressed at Victorian Premier League team Dandenong Thunder and has been rewarded with a three-month deal.
“Melbourne Victory is the biggest club in the A-League, so just to be given the chance to train in such a professional environment has been an amazing experience and hopefully I can repay the faith they-ve shown in me with some good performances,” he said.
“I knew if I played well against Victory in that mid-week friendly I-d be a chance to at least get a trial and thankfully it-s all come together,” he added.
