There are some crucial games in the Hyundai A-League Round 25, made even more special with a host of players and clubs set to achieve some eye-catching milestones this weekend.
Adelaide United’s home clash with Brisbane Roar FC is one such game.
At Coopers Stadium on Saturday afternoon, Reds striker Bruce Djite has the chance to go equal second on the club’s list of all-time scorers.
If Djite finds the net it will be his 25th for the club, drawing him level with Sergio van Dijk and just five behind leader former club fave Travis Dodd (30).
Meanwhile, Reds defender Nigel Boogaard is set to chalk up his 150th in the competition.
What’s more, Thomas Broich will go equal third (with now Perth Glory midfielder Mitch Nichols on 125] as Roar’s most-capped player, behind skipper Matt McKay (170) and Massimo Murdocca (162).
And Roar’s Michael Theo and Perth Glory gloveman Danny Vukovic are currently tied at the top for most Hyundai A-League clean sheets, the latter drawing level after a shut-out against Newcastle on Easter Monday.
Speaking of the Jets, their next goal will be their 300th since the start of the Hyundai A-League 10 years ago.
At Victory, Archie Thompson’s goal in the win over Wellington last weekend didn’t just increase his lead at the top of the all-time A-League scorers charts to three but he is also closing in on another milestone.
PREVIEW: Melbourne Victory v Newcastle Jets
The league legend has now scored 126 goals all-time in Australian National League’s, just behind Pablo Cardozo (127), who is fourth on the list, while Mariners goalkeeper Liam Reddy will make his 250th appearance in Australian National Leagues.
When it comes to team records, Sydney FC will go equal second in longest undefeated games away from home if they get a positive result against Perth Glory on Friday night.
The Sky Blues are unbeaten in 11 consecutive matches on the road and will join the Mariners (2010-’11) and Wanderers (2012-’13) on 12 games in second, four matches behind Brisbane Roar.
Adelaide are aiming to win their third match in a row for the first time since October 2010, while the Phoenix are going for a club record fourth straight win on the road.
So Round 25 is set to be pretty special. Enjoy your football as the teams and players celebrate their milestones this weekend in the Hyundai A-League!
