Westfield Matildas defender Ellie Carpenter capped off a sensational first season at Canberra United by taking out two awards at the club’s Westfield W-League Awards Night on Thursday.
The young fullback picked up the Player of the Year and Supporters’ Player of the Year awards.
It’s a huge reward for the 17-year-old, who has been a key member of the side’s success under Heather Garriock.
Carpenter has played in both midfield and her natural defensive position during the season, and scoring her first-ever Westfield W-League goals along the way.
In other awards presented, goalkeeper Haley Kopmeyer was voted Players’ Player of the Year by her peers.
Kopmeyer leads the league in saves by a massive margin of 13 heading into the final round of the season, reaffirming her status as arguably the league’s best shot stopper.
Karly Roestbakken announced herself as a starter this season with strong performances and picked up the University of Canberra Rising Star Award.
United remain in the hunt for a Westfield W-League finals spot heading into the final round this weekend.
They must beat Brisbane Roar and hope Melbourne City fail to beat the Newcastle Jets and they can leapfrog the defending champions into fourth spot.
