Brisbane Roar’s Carlo Armiento and Melbourne City striker Maria Jose Rojas have been named the Isuzu UTE A-League and Liberty A-League Player of the Month for December.
Both Armiento and Rojas were awarded as respective winners by the fans, after being nominated via the Opta Index as one of the top ten players of each month – which gives players a rating of 100 for a given period.
Armiento has been magnificent for Brisbane since the resumption of the competition post FIFA Men’s World Cup break, putting together a run of solid performances for Warren Moon’s side to be rewarded with a Player of the Month nomination.
The 23-year-old winger scored two sensational goals, coming against both Western Sydney Wanderers and Western United – capping off a month that also saw the Roar go undefeated in four games.
While at the Perth Glory, Armiento missed the entirety of last season with a knee injury, but has since returned with a vengeance, flourishing in his new home.
Meanwhile, Maria Jose Rojas’ sensational start to life at Melbourne City saw her nominated for the Liberty A-League Player of the Month.
Rojas arrived at City on the eve of the season, signing an injury-replacement contract in wake of star striker Hannah Wilkinson going down hurt.
The Chilean forward took no time to get going, scoring four goals in five games – with three of those coming in December – along with two assists.
Her performances have yielded a permanent deal with City, but will return in February after taking part in a training camp with Chile’s national team ahead of their Women’s World Cup playoffs.
