Coach Heather Garriock said she wished Nielsen the best of luck for the future while praising the effect the 25-year old had during her time in the Capital.
“Paige has been a valuable contributor to Canberra United both on and off the field in her time here, and I wish her luck with what comes next,” Garriock said.
“Player welfare comes first at this club, and we all agreed that it was important for Paige to look after herself moving forward.”
Her departure opens the door for Irish international Denise O’Sullivan to remain at the club for the rest of Westfield W-League Season 2018/19 after her initial guest contract expired in the aftermath of Canberra’s loss to Melbourne City last Saturday.
The 24-year old has been a solid contributor for Canberra since joining in the off-season and her extended stay was welcomed by Garriock.
“Denise has been simply outstanding for us so far this season,” Garriock said.
“She will now remain with the club for the rest of the season, and that is a positive for the squad not just on the field but off the field as well.”
Canberra will host Brisbane Roar at McKellar Park on Thursday night.
