Cahill’s special advice for Millwall’s young Aussie

Former Newcastle Jets striker Kristian Brymora has spoken about the thrill of playing alongside Tim Cahill at Millwall and the words of wisdom the Caltex Socceroos legend has imparted on him.

Cahill’s first outing for Millwall since his return to the club last month came alongside Brymora for the club’s U23 side this week.

In a match against Coventry City in Millwall’s training ground, the pair started up front together with both Cahill and Brymora getting on the scoresheet as the Lions won 3-2.

And much to Brymora’s delight it was Cahill who provided the assist for the 19-year-old’s goal.

Brymora – who left Newcastle in Australia to trial in England in June last year, eventually inking a deal with Millwall and signing a six-month extension over Christmas – has been starring for the Lions’ U23 side all season.

He admits playing alongside the Caltex Socceroos veteran, who he has idolised for years, has been a dream come true.

“Playing alongside Tim is something I never imagined would happen,” Brymora told www.a-league.com.au.

“It has been a great opportunity for me to be training and playing with him.

“After the game he spoke to me and said how I played well, which coming from him was a great feeling, but he also pointed out key areas that I should focus on improving on during training.

“Having him as a mentor and watching over during both our time here is great for me because I have an opportunity to continue to develop my game.”

Since that U23’s clash in midweek, Cahill has gone on to make his debut for Millwall’s first team in the Championship on Saturday morning.

Cahill came off the bench in the final minute as Neil Harris’ side drew 1-1 with high-flying Cardiff City at the Den.

The London club are currently 14th on the 24-team Championship ladder, and travel to Birmingham City next weekend.
