Wellington Phoenix has signed attacking midfielder Adrian Caceres for the remainder of the Hyundai A-League 2009/10 season after the 27-year-old was released from the final year of his two-year deal with Central Coast Mariners by mutual consent.

The Argentina-born Australian will link up with his new team-mates in the New Zealand capital on Wednesday and depending on final medical and fitness tests could be involved in the round five match against Adelaide United at Westpac Stadium on Friday night.

Caceres, who has had spells with Southampton, Brentford, Hull City, Yeovil, and Wycombe Wanderers in England, was a member of the Melbourne Victory championship winning team in 2006/07 after signing from Perth Glory.

He joined the Mariners in 2008/09, playing 22 games for the Gosford side that season and scoring two goals.

But after missing out on selection in the first four games of the current Hyundai A-League campaign, Caceres sought and was granted an early release.

“Adrian’s a very attack-minded player. To make the playoffs we need to add depth to the squad and Adrian, who has a championship-winning pedigree with Melbourne Victory, will add attacking flair to the team,” Phoenix chief executive Tony Pignata said.
