The Newcastle Herald is reporting that the Korean didn’t train on Tuesday after results from a pre-season electrocardiography (ECG) test found Byun had left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH), or an enlarged left ventricle.
Byun is said to have no history of heart trouble and despite some people being able to adapt to the condition through strength training, it can also lead to heart failure.
Rather than take risks, the Jets have sensibly restricted Byun’s duties until he has undergone a full battery of tests.
“We are taking every precaution to ensure his health is paramount,” Jets coach Gary van Egmond told the Herald.
“We should know the full extent by tomorrow or Friday. If everything is all right, he will be in the team for the Mariners [on Saturday].”
