David Carney’s Bunyodkor secured their place in the AFC Champions League quarter-finals courtesy of a 1-0 win over South Korean club Seongnam.

After a goalless first half at the Seongnam Tancheon Sports Complex, the Uzbekistan champions scored the decisive goal eight minutes into the second half when Hayrulla Karimov fired a penalty past Seongnam goalkeeper Ha Kang-Jin.

The result means Bunyodkor have now qualified for the final eight of the prestigious continental tournament for the third time in five attempts.

The Uzbek side join Adelaide United (Australia), Sepahan (Iran) and Saudi Arabian clubs Al-Ahli, Al-Hilal and Al-Ittihad in the quarter-final stage.

The final two spots will be taken by the winners of round-of-16 clashes between Ulsan Hyundai (South Korea) and Kashiwa Reysol (Japan), and Guangzhou Evergrande (China) and FC Tokyo (Japan) on Wednesday.

The draw for the quarter-finals, semi-finals, and final will be held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on June 14.
