Sydney FC skipper Alex Brosque has used the club’s season launch to fuel the fire for Saturday night’s history-making derby against bitter rival Western Sydney Wanderers.
Speaking at the club’s annual Sydney FC in Business Lunch and season launch at the Westin Hotel, Brosque says there’s a reason the Sky Blues have dominated this fixture recently and admitted he hates the Wanderers.
“You definitely can [get too hyped], you feel the anticipation and excitement that comes into this game…it’s more than any other game,” Brosque told more than 500 guests at the lunch at The Westin.

“I’d be lying if I said you treat it like any other game.
“We go out there, and I’ve told the boys previously in games, we hate every single one of them.
“We have to play well and win. I think that could be part of the reason why done well against them recently.”
The comments sparked a huge cheer from the crowd and are sure give added spice to what will be a massive occasion at ANZ Stadium.
A crowd in the region of 65,000 is expected – in what would be a Hyundai A-League record – in a blockbuster opening to the 2016/17 season.
“We’re very excited about the squad we’ve assembled for this year, there’s a lot of quality to add to what we already have.
“The training has been great and our [Westfield FFA] Cup form has been good as well. It doesn’t get any bigger than playing our main rivals on Saturday night.
“It’s hard to contain what we’re feeling, we just can’t wait to get out there.”
A serious hamstring injury meant Brosque only managed 13 appearances last season, with the 32-year-old admitting he thought he could struggle to make it back it on the pitch.
But after working vigorously with Sydney’s medical staff, Brosque is on board for another season and is part of a Sky Blues attack which will be led by marquee Bobo.
“Goals,” said Brosque when asked what the Brazilian will bring to Sydney’s side this season.
“He’s a player that, as a striker, you can’t teach a player how to score like he does. Form the very first session we noticed it straight away.
“He’s already got one already in the Cup and if he can get another one on Saturday I think the goals will flow for him because he’s definitely what I think we need.”
