Brockie set to leave Phoenix for South Africa

Jeremy Brockie is set to leave the Wellington Phoenix, with the club releasing a brief statement this morning that the striker has been in talks with other clubs.

“The Wellington Phoenix Football club can confirm it has given striker Jeremy Brockie permission to speak to an overseas club,” said the statement.

“The Wellington Phoenix will be making no further comment on the matter at this stage.”

News broke this morning that Brockie travelled to South Africa for a medical ahead of a possible announcement next week.

Brockie has scored 21 goals for the Phoenix – 16 of them in his stellar debut 2012/13 season – but hasn’t found the back of the net this season.

The 27 year old has 46 All Whites caps to his name but was an unused substitute in Wellington’s 5-1 victory over Melbourne Heart on Sunday.

He has started four of the Phoenix’s matches this year and is expected to travel to Newcastle for the side’s clash with the Jets this weekend.
