Brisbane Roar star Thomas Broich is battling a corked thigh but coach Mike Mulvey is confident the German will play in the A-League clash against Perth Glory.

With in-form midfielder Ivan Franjcic already ruled out with a side strain, Broich has trained away from the main group this week after suffering a knock in Brisbane’s 2-1 loss to Adelaide United last weekend.

“Ivan, I’ve probably put a pen through his name already. We need to give him time to recover properly,” Mulvey said.

“Thomas I’m more hopeful for. He definitely wants to play. That’s the first point – you’ve got to be strong in your mind.

“Knowing him, his powers of recovery and determination, there’s a good chance he’ll be fit.”

The Roar will train again in Brisbane on Thursday, the same day the team makes the cross-continent flight to Western Australia.

“We think we’ve got it down pat now with Perth,” he said.

“One of the hardest things with travelling is the training facilities … that makes an impact so we’ll do our training here before we travel.

“There’s been a fair bit of upheaval in Perth but I know (Glory coach) Ken Lowe well … he’s a very passionate man and that’s been shown already. He’s very organised and it seems like the ship has been righted.

“This is going to be a tough game for us, no doubt about it.”
