Brisbane Roar’s ‘missing’ link who’s lit up the Ninja A-League: ‘Match made in heaven’

Brisbane Roar head coach Alex Smith lauded the impact of Dutch star Bente Jansen in the Ninja A-League.

Jansen has made a fast start to life in the A-Leagues, scoring three goals in two games heading into Sunday’s clash with Western Sydney Wanderers while she has earned consecutive Team of the Week honours.

After a trophy-laden time in her native Netherlands with FC Twente and Ajax, the 26-year-old forward is now fuelling Brisbane’s quest in 2025-26.

“It’s something that’s probably been missing for us over the past four or five years I think as a club,” Smith said as Roar look to maintain her perfect start to the season.

“To have someone of her stature, her calmness and quality is fantastic and to add it into what we already have here is a match made in heaven.

“Just looking for her to continue that. I’m sure people around the league are now aware of her ability so we’re going to probably make a few adjustments as to how we get her more involved as people become more aware.

“But the thing I’m most proud of and looking forward to is the depth in that front line. So even if someone like Bente is out of the game for whatever reason, there’s four-five other girls who can step up and do equally well.”
