Brisbane Roar v Central Coast Mariners: match preview

A spot in the Hyundai A-League top six is at stake as Brisbane Roar do battle with Central Coast Mariners at Suncorp Stadium on Saturday.

The Mariners currently hold a finals position after their drought-breaking 1-0 win over Western United FC on Sunday.

Not only did Alen Stajcic’s side secure their first home win since April, they also kept their first clean sheet in 39 Hyundai A-League matches.

For Roar, it’s been a case of one step forward, two steps back it seems so far this season.

After their incredible comeback to beat Melbourne City a fortnight ago, Robbie Fowler’s men were unable to back it up, going down 2-1 to Wellington Phoenix last weekend.

Despite their inconsistency, Roar are just two points behind the sixth-placed Mariners heading into this one, placing great importance on the three points for both clubs.
