Brisbane Roar strikers set for Premiership showdown

Brisbane Roar strikers Jamie Maclaren and Henrique are set to play in the club’s Premiership decider against Melbourne Victory after injury scares this week.

Maclaren, Roar’s leading goal-scorer with 18 goals second only to Bruno Fornaroli (23) left the pitch last weekend against the Jets.

The forward had an ice pack applied to his knee with concerns he may not be fit for the club’s biggest game of the season this Saturday.

But on Wednesday Maclaren put his hand up for selection by completing the full 60-minute session for the table-toppers ahead of their Round 27 clash.

It’s good news for the Queensland outfit who have a simple equation in front of them: win on Saturday against Victory and a third Premiers’ Plate is theirs.

Any other result and one of three other teams may win it in a weekend like no other in the Hyundai A-League.

Super-sub Henrique was another under an injury cloud this week. He was spotted with an ice pack on his left knee at training on Wednesday.

But the popular Brazilian-born Aussie, who won and scored a penalty in last weekend’s 2-1 win over the Jets before providing a classy assist for Thomas Broich’s winner, shrugged off concerns he’ll miss the Victory showdown.

“I came here walking well, so it’s very good,” Henrique told reporters, adding that the ice was precautionary.

Brisbane Roar striker Henrique celebrates one of his goals off the bench this season.

“It is a big occasion but we are going to be well-prepared.

“Training was sharp today. If we do our best away as we do at home, we are going to get the result,” added the striker, who has eight goals this season.
