Brisbane Roar have revealed a special indigenous jersey to be worn by the club’s Liberty A-League and Isuzu UTE A-League teams in this weekend’s double-header at Suncorp Stadium.
The club is staging an Indigenous Day for the double-header as their women’s side prepares to play at Suncorp Stadium for the first time in more than four years when they take on Adelaide United in Round 6 of the Liberty A-League.
The Roar men’s outfit will take on Perth Glory in the first of two games at Suncorp Stadium on Sunday, November 26 (3pm AEDT kick-off) before the Liberty A-League clash between Roar and Adelaide at 5.45pm AEDT.
Brisbane’s Liberty A-League captain Ayesha Norrie said she’s honoured to wear the jersey as part of the Suncorp Stadium double-header.
“I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to wear the jersey on Sunday. It’s an honour to have this representation in football for not only myself, but for the next generation,” added Norrie.
Roar sponsors Truth and Treaty are Brisbane’s matchday partners for Sunday’s special event.
Brisbane CEO Kaz Patafta said the occasion provides an opportunity to support the many indigenous cultures in Australia, and show that all people are welcome at the club,
“Playing football is our core. However, we are a community club and therefore it’s important for us to acknowledge and respect the many cultures and beliefs that reflect both the people within our club, as well as our Brisbane Roar fans and their communities,” Patafta said.
“Brisbane Roar welcomes and respects all people, regardless of backgrounds and we remain devoted to supporting all indigenous cultures that shape our nation and our football community.”
