Ahead of Harvey Norman Friday Night Football, Brisbane Roar defender Luke DeVere says the Queensland outfit will take confidence into any match at Suncorp Stadium, regardless of the opposition.
Roar turned Suncorp into one of the Hyundai A-League’s most feared venues for travelling sides, losing just once at home throughout the 2015/16 Season.
Next to visit the fortress is  the second placed Melbourne City on Friday night (6:50pm KO local, 7.50pm AEDT) in a second versus fifth clash.Â

With four points from two homes games to begin the 2016/17 Season, DeVere says Roar will back themselves against side at home – even one as dangerous as City.Â
“We back ourselves to be a good team, especially at Suncorp Stadium. Teams struggle coming up here and we get a lot of positive results at home,” he said.
“We’re confident against any opposition at home, we’ll put in a good performance and get the result we’re after.
“Hopefully what we’ve done in the last couple of weeks has given our fans incentive to want to come watch what will be an exciting game.”
Friday night’s clash may be Tim Cahill’s only visit to Suncorp Stadium this season, but the Roar defence can’t afford to centre their attention solely on Australia’s all-time leading goal scorer.
“If we start focusing on one opposition player we start losing focus on what we’re about and what we’re trying to do,” DeVere said. Â
“Especially in the home games, we want to make the opposition worry about us.
“We definitely deserved the win against Perth. I thought defensively we were good and we created a lot of chances so I think walking away with a draw would have been unjust,” DeVere said.
“The team’s got a lot of belief that if we stick to what we’re doing that the results will come and as the team start to gel more things will improve.
“I think that was our best performance on the weekend and hopefully we can take that moving forward now.Â
“With the attacking players we have and the threat we pose going forward, there’s no doubt that the goals will come as the season goes on.”
The Roar will be up against a potent Melbourne City attack featuring slippery South Americans Bruno Fornaroli and Fernando Brandán, but DeVere believes the Roar have the defence to contain the trio, as well as the attacking prowess to counter.
“We’re aware that Melbourne City have some great players but at the same time we do too and we’re confident that we’re going to be up there as well and can deal with anything they throw at us,” he said.
“Both Corey Brown and Jack Hingert have started the season well and they’re both quick, agile fullbacks so I’m confident that they will be able to deal with anything that’s thrown at them.”
