Brisbane Roar sign former Melbourne Victory youngster

The A-Leagues will host its first ever Unite Round this weekend, with every team – men’s and women’s – playing a special round across Sydney.

Brisbane Roar have signed defender Ryan Lethlean until the end of the 2024-25 Isuzu UTE A-League season.

Lethlean makes the move to Ben Cahn’s Roar following seven years with his hometown club Melbourne Victory.

The 21-year-old, who was a striker in his younger days before being converted to a central defender by current Brisbane assistant Luciano Trani when they worked together at Victory, made his professional debut in a 2021 Australia Cup game.

Lethlean also featured in the Australia Cup play-off against Newcastle Jets in July, having played 17 times for Victory’s NPL side during the 2023 season as they earned promotion to the second tier in Victoria.

“Roar play attractive football, a brand which is free-flowing, attacking and very enticing to get involved in,” Lethlean said.

“I want to play as many games as I can, but more importantly win as many games as possible and help the team push for finals football at the end of the season.

“It’s a great bunch of young men, the culture and the standard that the boys are setting and asking of one another is something that I want to be a part of.”

Lethlean is available for selection ahead of Sunday’s Unite Round showdown against Newcastle Jets at Allianz Stadium.

Meanwhile, Brisbane mutually parted ways with defender Aaron Reardon.

Reardon returned to the Roar this off-season after previously captaining the club’s National Youth League side, making two appearances across the first half of the campaign.
