Brisbane coach Ange Postecoglou says his side are looking forward to taking the attack to Adelaide United when they meet at Suncorp Stadium on Friday night.
Following a dominant victory over 2010-11 runners-up Central Coast, a comprehensive 2-0 away win against Sydney and a 3-0 thrashing of derby rivals Gold Coast, the Roar have allayed all doubts over their ability to maintain the high standards they set in 2010.
Speaking from the top of the ladder, Postecoglou said that he was expecting a formidable challenge from Adelaide, but would back his side’s hot form and peerless passing game to win the day.
“I think everyone had them as favourites starting the season … so they’re a good side,” said Postecoglou.
“It’s a pretty tight comp. Even though they’ve had a couple of losses, it could have gone the other way.”
“Especially early on in the year and when there’s a fight for points, you can find yourself behind the eight ball pretty quickly, but you can also make that ground up pretty quickly.”
“We’ll back our style of game and we’ll be relentless with what we do. We start at a high tempo and we maintain that, so whoever plays against us has to be prepared to do that.”
“They’ve got to be prepared to play the tempo we play, if they drop off a little bit, we’ll capitalise. We are an uncompromising team in the way we go about things. We start hard and we maintain that for 90 minutes.”
Postecoglou reiterated his side’s pledge to taking an aggressive mind-set into every match and said that his side remained committed to playing entertaining football.
“I use to be a defender but I love scoring goals, that’s what the game’s about. My defenders won’t like me saying this, but I’d be happy to win six-five. We are in the entertainment business,” he said.
“That’s always been our focus. We like to score goals. We like to play attacking both away and at home. We want to try to win every game we play in; that’s always our mindset.”
“The by-product of that is that we also work hard defensively and we won’t cough up anything either.”
“We won’t carry any passengers, but certainly our mindset, and the most satisfaction we get is from scoring goals and being as attacking as possible.”
“I’m sure they’ll back themselves and they’ve got some very, very good high-quality players in their team and I’ll be very surprised if they come in here with the white flag flying.”
