In a big blow to Newcastle Jets’ finals ambitions, striker Michael Bridges has been ruled out for the rest of the season with a leg injury.
The former England youth international suffered the injury during Sunday’s training session at Newcastle University, and on Monday he underwent scans that revealed a tear in the Rectus femoris muscle of his right leg.
The injury will not require surgery at this stage, but still involves a six week recovery period.
Bridges will therefore miss this Saturday evening’s Hyundai A-League Semi-Final against Gold Coast United to be played at Skilled Park.
It is more bad news for the Jets who approach the upcoming finals series in ordinary form, they have lost their past four matches.
