Western Sydney Wanderers captain Mark Bridge was left unconvinced by the 4-1 win over Wellington Phoenix that lifted his team to fifth.
The Finals Series hopefuls netted three goals after half-time to see off Phoenix at Spotless Stadium and open up a five-point gap to seventh-placed Brisbane Roar.
But the skipper is adamant they must improve to stay inside the top six.
“We’re not in a position where we can rest on our laurels and not perform,” Bridge told Fox Sports.
“I don’t think we were at our best. I think in the first half we were very average.
“Second half [Wellington] got tired. We did play some good football but they got tired.
“We need to be better. You come up against a big club like Sydney FC or Victory or City and you don’t get away with the mistakes we were making.”
Brendan Hamill was the hero for Western Sydney, scoring twice beyond the hour to end the visitors’ resistance.
Bridge, who assisted Wanderers’ first and third, was unsurprised by the big defender’s cool work in front of goal.
“He did well. He’s dangerous in attacking set-pieces, it’s nothing new to us,” the experienced forward said.
“It’s good that he banged in a couple in the second half because we needed it.”
