Luke Brattan sat out the entire Isuzu UTE A-League season but the Sydney FC star is staying with the Sky Blues on a two-year contract.
An ACL injury ended Brattan’s 2021-22 A-League Men campaign before it even began, the midfielder sustaining a torn anterior cruciate ligament in November’s FFA Cup clash against Sydney Olympic.
But the 32-year-old and four-time ALM Championship winner will be back with Sydney in 2022-23 and 2023-24.
“I’m excited to get back playing for Sydney FC and I feel my next two seasons can be the best of my career,” said Brattan, who won the Premiership and Championship as a Sky Blue in 2019-20.
“I want to be part of that brilliant new Allianz Stadium and I can’t wait to walk out in our new home for the very first time in October.
“I’m working extremely hard to get back to fitness and things are going well.
“It’s a long road but I feel good, and I’m looking forward to being back on the pitch with the boys.”
Brattan has made 58 appearances for Sydney, scoring two goals since arriving after he was on the books of Premier League powerhouse Manchester City between 2015 and 2019.
The veteran was three Championships with Brisbane Roar prior to being signed by the English giants, who then loaned the Australian to Bolton Wanderers and Melbourne City.
Sydney head coach Steve Corica, who also signed a contract extension that will make him the longest serving coach in club history, added: “I think there’s no doubt we missed Luke last season as he’s a key player for us and one of the best midfielders in the country.
“His work rate, his passing, his never-say-die attitude and his leadership on and off the field are crucial components which have a positive impact for us.
“It’s great news to have him back on board and firing on all cylinders once again.”
