Bozanic makes Mariners exit as club announces six player departures

Central Coast Mariners have today announced the departures of six first team squad members, including captain Oliver Bozanic.

The former Socceroos midfielder was released by the Mariners alongside Nicolai Müller, Matt Hatch, Noah Smith, Ruon Tongyik and Lewis Miller.

Bozanic returned to the club ahead of the 2020-21 A-League Men’s campaign and proceeded to play a key role in the Mariners’ revival, helping to end the club’s long wait for finals football. Under new head coach Nick Montgomery this season, the 33-year-old featured prominently early doors, but after 15 appearances fell out of favour. Bozanic’s last league appearance came in mid-March against Perth Glory.

Muller, 34, departs after making 18 appearances through his first season at the club along with Tongyik, who featured just nine times under Montgomery as Dan Hall emerged as the preferred central defensive partner to Kye Rowles in 2021-22.

Miller enjoyed a breakout campaign under the new Mariners boss, but joins fellow full-back Noah Smith and 21-year-old forward Matthew Hatch in departing the Mariners for new opportunities.

In a club statement, Mariners Head of Football Ken Schembri said: “On behalf of our club I would like to thank Nicolai, Ollie, Noah, Matt, Ruon and Lewis for their contributions to season 2021-22.

“They have all added their own uniqueness to building our team and our success this season. We wish them and their families all the very best for the next chapter in their football journey.”

Head Coach Nick Montgomery added: “All of these players have played a part in our success this season, breaking many records.”
