Birmingham striker’s loan transfer delayed

In a blow for Wellington Phoenix, the loan deal for forward Alex Jones from Birmingham City has yet to be cleared by FIFA, the Hyundai A-League club announced today.

New Zealand Football and Wellington Phoenix confirmed today (Thurs) that the loan transfer was entered into FIFA’s Transfer Matching System (TMS) system last weekend.

However, the online process was not able to be completed in time for Jones to be registered prior to the closure of the A-League registration window.

NZF are working with FIFA, FFA and OFC to secure the necessary clearance.

In other news, Phoenix have signed injury replacement striker Hamish Watson from Hawke’s Bay for injured Fijian winger Roy Krishna.Â
