Newcastle Jets goalkeeper Mark Birighitti has travelled to Germany to meet with key representatives of Bundesliga club Bayer Leverkusen.
The Jets have announced the 22-year-old departed Australia yesterday, following their 5-0 demolition of Wellington at Hunter Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
The regular first-choice goalkeeper had to watch proceedings from the bench for the first time this season, with Ben Kennedy preferred in goals.
The news caps a tumultuous fortnight for the Jets custodian, who has one Socceroos cap to his name. Birighitti was recently involved in a training ground bust-up with teammate Tyler Regan and produced a couple of howlers in Newcastle-s loss to the Mariners in round 23.
Birighitti will return to our shores on Saturday, linking up with teammates in Perth for their pivotal clash against the Glory at nib Stadium on Sunday.
