It’s BIG! The Hyundai A-League has its Big Wednesday this week on 4 January.

For the first time ever the Hyundai A-League will showcase a full round of five matches back-to-back in a 12-hour marathon of Australia-s premier football league tomorrow (Wednesday 4 January).

The action kicks off in Wellington and wraps up in Perth. Fox Sports will be offering live, exclusive and non-stop coverage of all the action starting from 12.30pm AEDT for the Wellington Phoenix v Sydney FC match and ending around 12.30am AEDT post the Perth Glory v Brisbane Roar game.

“Big Wednesday will be a unique celebration of football in Australia. The marathon will showcase of the quality of football, the pure sporting entertainment and the scale and breadth of the competition,” said Head of Hyundai A-League Lyall Gorman.

“I can-t think of another top-flight competition in world football that in a single day can span two nations, cities 5,000 kilometres apart, three timezones and an array of daytime, twilight and evening kicks off times.

“The logistics are huge, but what really matters is that we-ll see 450 minutes of our best footballers in a round where every match has an intriguing story that will unfold.”

During Big Wednesday the Australian football community will mark the passing of Murray Barnes, the former captain of the Socceroos for the 1982 FIFA World Cup campaign and a four-time national champion with Sydney City Hakoah.

Fans are invited to commemorate the career of Murray Barnes by joining a formal moment of applause prior to kick off at each game.
