Sydney FC marquee man Alessandro Del Piero ranks Saturday-s clash against the Western Sydney Wanderers at Allianz Stadium (kick off 7:45pm) as a pivotal moment in the Sky Blues season.
With Sydney FC still in the hunt for finals football, and sitting in sixth place, Del Piero said nothing but a win will suffice as three points will allow the Sky Blues to ascend a congested Hyundai A-League ladder.
“We need a win for the next game and also for the rest of the season,” said Del Piero.
“At the moment we-re in a good spot on the ladder but it-s not enough, it-s very close to the seven and eight places. That-s why we need points every week.
“This one this week will be tough and also the next one against Brisbane but we have to be focussed this Saturday.
“It-s a big moment for Sydney FC.”
Del Piero, the man who delivered the Sky Blues victory in the inaugural derby, likened the Sydney Derby to those he has been a part of in Italy and said he is expecting Western Sydney to present a tough test on Saturday night even after the Wanderers recent form slump.
“The derbies have a different feeling around us,” he said.
“The atmosphere is similar [to derbies in Italy]. We play in a wonderful stadium, I-m sure it will be full and the atmosphere will be fantastic.
“We don-t expect a flat Wanderers,” he continued.
“We expect a very tough team. They have a good squad and for sure they will be prepared for everything.”
