Beware the Mariners: Glory coach

Perth Glory coach Kenny Lowe believes Central Coast will continue to trouble the rest of the Hyundai A-League after their 2-0 win over his side on Thursday night in Gosford.

Goals to Harry Ascroft in the first half and Roy O’Donovan after the break confirmed the points for the home side at Central Coast stadium.

Central Coast bank clean sheet in win over Glory

Mariners skipper delighted with clean sheet

“They play the right way, they’ve got some good players and you can see they’re all together and focussed on the team and it bodes well for the future,” Lowe told Fox Sports when asked about the Mariners.

Mariners players celebrate a goal in their 2-0 win over Perth Glory.

It was a forgettable night for the WA outfit (in fourth on the ladder) and one that pushed Paul Okon’s men into sixth spot ahead of the remainder of Round 8.

It was Central Coast’s first clean sheet in 36 matches and perhaps a turning point in their season.

Losing star defender Josh Risdon in the warm-up and key forward Diego Castro inside the first 20 minutes, both to injury, didn’t help Glory’s cause.

Both will be assessed today (Friday).

“We huffed and puffed and a few little half chances and again we conceded to a set play which was poor.

“Not the best of days of us,” added a deflated Lowe.

“There was nothing in the game but they had their opportunities and they took them and fair play to them.”
