Berisha set to hit 100 Hyundai A-League goals

Prolific Besart Berisha is poised to reach the magical 100 Hyundai A-League goals mark – and he could potentially rack up his Aussie century this weekend against the Reds, or against Sydney FC in the next Big Blue.

Berisha’s brace in Sunday’s 3-0 win over Central Coast Mariners took his career A-League tally to 97 goals from just 150 appearances.

The Albanian hitman scored 48 times in 76 matches for Brisbane Roar and now has 49 from 74 appearances for Victory.

It’s already been a phenomenal season for Berisha, who overtook Victory legend Archie Thompson (90) as the competition’s greatest-ever goal-scorer.

His record-breaking 91st goal came when he swept home a first-half penalty in Victory’s 4-2 win over Newcastle Jets in Geelong back in round 13.

Victory players celebrate Besart Berisha's opening goal in the win over Newcastle Jets in Geelong.

And the goals have kept flowing for the 31-year-old.

His double in Gosford on Sunday made it 16 for the campaign to sit three clear of Melbourne City’s Bruno Fornaroli at the top of the golden boot standings.

So when will Bes get to the magical 100 mark?

Victory next hosts last-placed Adelaide United at AAMI Park on Saturday night.

You would never rule out Berisha scoring a hat-trick and against the last-placed Reds – who may be weary after a midweek ACL game.

If Berisha only scores one or two against Adelaide, it opens the door for him to crack triple figures against Sydney FC in the Big Blue at Allianz Stadium the following week on Friday night March 3.

For a player who has a super record against the Sky Blues, you get the feeling it would be extra special for “Bes” to reach that milestone in the Harbour City.
