Striker Besart Berisha claimed the record for the most number of goals scored in a single Hyundai A-League season by a Melbourne Victory player on Sunday.
The marquee forward netted his 16th goal of the Hyundai A-League 2015/16 campaign in the 1-1 draw with Newcastle Jets at AAMI Park.
Berisha, who scored 15 goals last season, also held the previous record, which he shared with Marco Rojas (2012/13) and Archie Thompson (2006/07).
Eleven goals clear of both Kosta Barbarouses and Fahid Ben Khalfallah, Berisha is on track to win his second successive Victory Golden Boot award this season.
Berisha is third in this season’s Hyundai A-League Golden Boot standings, one goal behind Brisbane Roar’s Jamie Maclaren and three behind Melbourne City’s Bruno Fornaroli.
He has scored 79 goals in his Hyundai A-League career so far – the third highest total in the competition’s history behind Thompson (90) and Shane Smeltz (89).
Despite having yet to complete two full seasons at Victory, Berisha’s 31 goals places him fourth on the club’s all-time list of top scorers.
