Brisbane Roar coach Ange Postecoglou and his record-breaking team have both been nominated for The Age and The Sydney Morning Herald Sports Performer Award.
Nominated in the Coach Performer of the Year, Postecoglou, who last year led Brisbane to the Hyundai A-League double, has been widely lauded for his work with the club, creating a style of play that has set a new standard for elite-level club football in this country.
And the Brisbane squad has responded by going on a record-breaking 34-match unbeaten run and proving that locally produced players do have the ability to play a creative, high-quality, technique-based style that remains attacking and entertaining. The team has been nominated for the Team Performance of the Year award.
Two more Australian footballers have also been nominated, in the Young Performer of the Year category: Central Coast Mariners midfielder Mustafa Amini and Sydney FC Westfield W-League midfielder Caitlin Foord.
The Sports Performer Awards aim to recognise the very best in Australian sport from the previous 12 months and are voted for by the Australian public.
