Australia to compete at the inaugural FIFA eNations Cup

Football Federation Australia (FFA) today confirmed that an Australian representative team will compete at the inaugural FIFA eNations Cup which will take place on 13-14 April 2019.

Following last week’s announcement by FIFA, Australia will be one of 16 eFootball national teams invited to compete in this new show case event as part of the as part of the FIFA 19 Global Series on the Road to the FIFA eWorld Cup™.

Sixteen national teams representing all of FIFA’s confederations, CONCACAF, CONMEBOL, CAF, OFC, AFC and UEFA will be invited to take part in this event.

The Australian Team will consist of one (1) Xbox and one (1) PS4 competitor and will be selected from the E-League talent pool with the qualifying selection process to be announced in the coming weeks with the representative competitors to be announced during Round 5 of the E-League (28 March).

FFA’s Chief Commercial Officer, Luke Bould, was excited that there is now an opportunity for Australia’s top eSports competitors to represent their country as a team on the World Stage.

“The FIFA eNations Cup is a fantastic opportunity for us to compete against other nations as part of a global competition, and field Australia’s newest national team” said Bould.

“Since we launched the E-League last year, we have seen the profile of eSports in Australia increase exponentially along with the profile of our competitors.

“This is another significant step in the evolution of eSports and we are proud that Australia will be a part of it,” concluded Bould.

Taking place from 13 – 14 April 2019, the FIFA eNations Cup is one of eight Majors in the EA SPORTS FIFA 19 Global Series and one of three tournaments hosted by FIFA, which also includes the FIFA eClub World Cup™ and – the pinnacle event of eFootball – the FIFA eWorld Cup, which will take place at start of August 2019.
