Aussie midfielder departs Dutch club

Former Perth Glory midfielder and Young Socceroo Daniel De Silva has revealed on Instagram he has parted company with Dutch club Roda JC.

The 19-year-old has struggled to cement a spot in the Eredivisie club’s first-team this season and has made just 20 appearances in 18 months at the club.

De Silva was hopeful of forcing his way back into the squad but decided a move was his best option when club management decided not to take the ex-Perth Glory star on their winter training camp to Portugal.

CEO of Glory Peter Filopoulos played down talk of the skilful youngster re-joining the club, tweeting shortly after that it wasn’t that simple to bring De Silva back into the fold.

De Silva originally left Perth in August 2015, bound for Italian club Roma. That deal was scuppered at the last minute which resulted in him joining the Dutch outfit instead.
