Auckland FC head coach Steve Corica said the Black Knights have “records to break” heading into their Isuzu UTE A-League showdown against Macarthur Bulls.
It has been a memorable start to life in the A-Leagues for newcomers Auckland, who have won all three of their opening matches as they prepare for Sunday’s Round 5 match against Macarthur at Allianz Stadium in Sydney.
Auckland, who had the bye in Round 4, are only one of two teams in Isuzu UTE A-League history to win their first three games in the competition, while they are also the second side in history to keep a clean sheet in their first three games (along with Adelaide United).

Ahead of this weekend’s Unite Round, Corica told reporters: “We’ve got records to break.
“If we can get another win, it will be the most, four wins in a row, another clean sheet we are all on our own with that as well four in a row.
“There’s stuff we want to try and do and achieve, and make history.”

Corica, whose Auckland are third in the standings but just a point behind Melbourne Victory with a game in hand, added: “I’d say we’ve surprised a few people, probably haven’t surprised ourselves because that’s what we expect. We set our goals at the start.
“We want to be up there and compete with the best.”

Unite Round and the trip to Sydney represents Auckland’s first A-Leagues match outside of New Zealand.
So far, the Black Knights have trumped Brisbane Roar and Sydney FC in Auckland, and Wellington Phoenix at Sky Stadium in Wellington.

“I think it is a challenge for us,” Corica replied when asked if playing in Australia was the next challenge for Auckland to conquer.
“We want to win every game, whether it’s home or away, Unite Round. It’s a different occasion as well – all teams in the one venue. We will see how all the other results go.
“We want to win and get back to the top of the table.”
