Aspro looks ahead after Wanderers’ loss to Victory

Despondent Western Sydney Wanderers defender Jonathan Aspropotamitis says his side must forget Saturday night’s 3-0 loss to Melbourne Victory and concentrate on next week’s match.

In an open and entertaining game in front of just over 16,000 fans, Wanderers dominated the first half but their finishing lacked the clinical edge they showed in last week’s 4-1 win in Gosford.

And the red and black were made to pay with Victory’s Besart Berisha back to his clinical best, bagging a hat-trick at ANZ Stadium to ensure Wanderers’ search for a home win this season continues.

“We went into half-time 1-0 down and we thought what more can we do to score?” the central defender told Fox Sports.

“We had some great chances but we went in really positive at half time, like we always do, but unfortunately it didn’t fall for us in the second half.

“I think tonight we were pretty good with the ball. But it’s those key little moments when we switch off defensively.

“And at the moment we’re getting punished for those little mistakes.

“But we’ll move on to next week now,” he said.

Next week, Wanderers head to New Zealand to face a revitalised Wellington Phoenix who won 3-0 earlier on Saturday against Central Coast.

Phoenix are now two points out of the six in seventh spot, behind Wanderers in sixth.
