Asian Cup CEO to oversee Perth Glory restructure

Michael Brown, CEO of the AFC Asian Cup Local Organising Committee, has been appointed to spearhead a panel to select Perth Glory’s new Chief Executive.

Brown will arrive in Perth later this month to interview and assess a shortlist of CEO candidates.

The Asian Cup in January was hugely successful boasting record crowds and TV audiences.

The Socceroos won the championship, after a dramatic extra-time victory against South Korea.

Prior to his involvement with the world game, Brown was General Manager of Cricket Australia for 10 years, handling player contracts and fostering government relations.

He also spent six years with AFL heavyweights Hawthorn as Chief Executive, overseeing all aspects of the club including its transition from Waverley to the MCG.

Brown said he was looking forward to his involvement with the Western Australian Football Club and was focused on finding the right person to help Perth back to its glory days.

“The club approached me at the end of the season and asked me if I would get involved. I accepted, based on the condition I would have autonomy and be able to conduct a clear and transparent selection process,” he said.

“My role won’t be confined to only appointing the new CEO. I will be assessing and reviewing all aspects of the club to ensure the right protocols and processes are in place”.

“After a number of meetings and discussions with club chairman Tony Sage, I am confident that the new and right path for Glory is just around the corner” he added.

Mr Sage said he was delighted and proud to have Mr Brown on board.

“I can’t think of anyone better than Michael to be leading the charge and implementing some good corporate governance measures,” he said.

“He’ll join us for a couple of weeks, talking with our staff and getting a real feel of things and telling us where we need to be and we hope to appoint the new CEO sometime in early July” he added.

Mr Brown’s appointment coincides with Glory’s Hyundai A-League 2015/16 membership launch.

Almost 500 of the Glory faithful have jumped back on board since memberships went on sale only four days ago.
