Arsenal sparkle against Hyundai A-League champions

In an entertaining friendly, English Premier League powerhouse Arsenal put on a show to defeat Sydney FC 2-0 at ANZ Stadium on Thursday night.

In front of around 80,000, the fans got their money’s worth with the Gunners showing their class and incisive style from the start.

Sydney FC for their part put on a solid display after just ten days into their pre-season, while giving a host of youngsters a chance on the big stage late in the game.

  • Sydney FC’s Andrew Redmayne was in fine form in goals for Graham Arnold’s men, saving a second-half penalty and making numerous good saves

  • Arsenal changed their keeper at half time and made 10 outfield changes simultaneously in the second half with new signing Alex Lacazette one of those to come on with 22 minutes left.

An un-Arsenal like goal. Ozil’s corner wasn’t dealt with by the hosts and the big German defender found himself with back to goal before flicking the ball past the excellent Andrew Redmayne.

Alex Lacazette Arsenal 82’ 0-2

Arsenal hit Sydney FC on the break with Alex Iwobe’s pace seeing him bursting into Sydney’s box, he squared the ball low and the big new French signing found himself in front of goal for an easy tap-in.
