Arsenal boss excited for Gunners’ games in Sydney

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has spoken of his excitement ahead of the Gunners trip Down Under in July to face Hyundai A-League clubs Western Sydney Wanderers and Sydney FC.

Wenger, who just extended his contract with Arsenal for at least the next two seasons, guided the Gunners to a record-breaking 13th FA Cup win in May and will be in charge when he brings his club to Australia next month.

“I love Australia, we have a strong support there so it’s always a privilege to travel and to see how big a club Arsenal has become,” said Wenger.

“From a very local club, Arsenal has become a world club that is respected by and all over the world.

“For us, preseason is the moment where we can enjoy that and we can give as well some pleasure to the fans who love us from all these different countries. Australia is a very sporting country and it will be very nice to go there and play.

“We play twice there and I am convinced that it will be two different games for the start.”

Taking the Gunners to a Premier League title is the goal and Wenger and he has already acknowledged the need to add to his current squad.

It means a number of new signings could be making their debut in Sydney next month.

“Between now and the tour we will work every day to get the best possible environment around the team and to strengthen the team,” said Wenger.

“That’s basically a lot of dark, invisible work. But that is demanded and that means never leave your seat without your phone, never go to bed without your phone, because anything can happen.

“We will basically be on alert 24 hours a day.”

With Wenger locked in and a number of signings on the way, the Gunners are making waves as they sail towards Sydney for their Tour in just over a months time.
