Central Coast Mariners are breathing a big sigh relief today, with news that Giancarlo Gallifuoco’s groin injury is not as serious as first feared.
The new Central Coast Mariners recruit was withdrawn in the first half of his side’s FFA Cup Round of 32 win over Maitland on Wednesday after going down with an adductor tear.
Gallifuoco – who signed for the Mariners in May – gave fans an encouraging update on Twitter yesterday, while the club confirmed on Friday that the 25-year-old is set to miss a couple of weeks of full training.

So far, so good! Results are back and it looks like only a few minor tears, I’ll just need a couple of weeks to recover ?? Appreciate all the well wishes! More importantly, so proud of the lads for getting through to round 16 of the FFA cup! ?? pic.twitter.com/HvLYN2xAgP

Why Tratt chose Perth
The opportunity to improve his trade under the meticulous eye of Tony Popovic was one too good to refuse for new Perth Glory defender Jacob Tratt.
Glory boss Popovic, who mastered the art of defending for the Caltex Socceroos and for the likes of Premier League club Crystal Palace, secured the services of the 24-year-old centre back in July.
“Being a central defender, I just wanted to learn the ropes under Tony, to be honest,” Tratt revealed.
“There’s a lot in my game I feel like I needed work on and I just felt like he would be the man to teach me.”
A trip into the Tratt-osphere…!

Kurz relishing Victory support
Newly arrived Australian internationals Robbie Kruse and Andrew Nabbout are sure to fire on the pitch for Melbourne Victory, but coach Marco Kurz believes those watching on from the stands are also capable of making an impact.
Kurz is well-versed in the noise the Navy Blue can muster having been on the receiving end of some white-hot atmosphere while in the dugout of former club Adelaide United.
Now, the German is relieved the tables have turned.
“It was always a big fight playing against Victory in front of a fantastic crowd,” Kurz told the club website.
“To know that I’m the coach with really passionate supporters with a lot of heart, that’s very helpful for me and also for the team. That can make the difference in very hard games.”

Head tennis with Western United
Alessandro Diamanti has got all the tricks in his locker, as the Italian demonstrated in training for Western United yesterday.
The attacking midfielder – who signed for Mark Rudan’s side in July – is certainly showing what he’s capable of during the club’s pre-season tour in the Gold Coast.
