Daniel McBreen is back from suspension for Sunday’s Hyundai A-League away clash with his former club Perth Glory, but what role he plays for the Central Coast Mariners is unknown.
Before missing the Mariners 4-0 whitewash against Sydney, striker McBreen was a regular starter for Graham Arnold’s team.
However, with McBreen absent, Adam Kwasnik was called into the starting line-up for the first time this season and made the most of his chance, netting a double. Kwasnik was unlucky not to finish with a hat-trick in one of his best performances for the Mariners.
He has now scored six goals for the Mariners (including four off the bench) and is desperate to start more matches.
With fellow striker Matt Simon also finding form, choosing whether to retain Kwasnik or go with regular starter McBreen, will be a tough decision for Arnold and his assistant coach Phil Moss.
McBreen’s likely inclusion in the squad is expected to be the only change for the Mariners for the Perth match.
Moss, though, has been impressed with Kwasnik’s application throughout the season.
“He’s a technically gifted player with a great turn of pace,” Moss said.
“He knows where the back of the net is.”
Moss said a big focus for the Mariners this week has been maintaining the form showed against Sydney.
That brilliant performance followed a 5-1 hammering at the hands of competition favourites Brisbane and a 3-2 loss to Gold Coast United.
“We need to find some consistency in our performances,” Moss said.
