Sydney FC boss Graham Arnold has indicated the club expect to clinch two more signings before the Hyundai A-League transfer window closes on Thursday.
Speaking on Wednesday ahead of the club’s clash with Wellington Phoenix on Friday night, Arnold admitted he expects a defender and an attacker to sign for the league-leading Sky Blues over the next couple of days.
Adelaide United defender Ben Warland has been linked with a move to Sydney, while former Reds and Mariners winger Fabio Ferreira has been training with the club.
“We’re down to the last 12 hours of the transfer window, I expect two players to sign for us over the comings days and they will strengthen our squad considerably in numbers,” Arnold told reporters at the club’s Macquarie Uni base.
“We’ve got a busy afternoon and evening ahead of us to make those decisions but we definitely will be adding one or two players.
The additional signings will join a Sky Blue squad buoyed by last week’s 3-1 win over Melbourne Victory, a result that sees Sydney FC open up a nine-point gap at the top of the Hyundai A-League.
Having already won the Westfield FFA Cup this season, Sydney FC could become the first team to win a domestic treble, which combined with last years Championship and Premiership wins, would represent an unparalleled trophy haul.
“The motivation is to win every game, and we expect to win every game. What I’m driving at the moment is to break records and make history,” Arnold said.
“The other record that we’re chasing is the 66 points that we got last year and we’re on track to beat that. The group of players that I’ve got love breaking records, they love making history and it motivates and drives them.”
