Aussie football legend Archie Thompson will continue his playing career in the PS4 NPL Victoria competition after the 37-year-old signed a deal with Heidelberg United FC.
The Hyundai A-League’s all-time leading scorer had been training with the club for the past fortnight following his return from overseas and confirmed the move via social media.
The former Melbourne Victory star is set to make his Heidelberg debut next Sunday 14 August in the yellow and black’s final home game of the season against Oakleigh Cannons at the historic Olympic Village.
“Very excited to finally put the boots on again with Heidelberg United FC next week,” Thompson said via his Instagram account.
“Would mean a lot if Melbourne Victory fans could come along and support me and my new club.”
Thompson scored 97 goals in all competitions across 11 trophy-laden seasons at Melbourne Victory, making over 260 appearances for the club.
The prolific striker claimed two Victory Medals (2007/08 and 2009/10) and two Victory Golden Boot awards (2005/06 and 2006/07) on top of three Hyundai A-League Premiers Plates, three Championships and a Westfield FFA Cup title.
Heidelberg United currently sit in second spot on the PS4 NPL Victoria ladder and are in action against league leaders Bentleigh Greens at Kingston Heath Soccer Complex tonight (7pm kick-off).
The club will hold a press conference on Monday to officially unveil their new star signing.
