The Central Coast Mariners have confirmed that defender Antony Golec has sustained a fracture to his tibial plateau (shinbone) and will undergo surgery in Melbourne on Monday.
Golec sustained the injury in the Mariners’ Hyundai A-League Round 23 fixture against Melbourne Victory on Sunday.
The incident happened in the 33rd minute of his side’s 5-2 loss at AAMI Park.
The 27-year-old centre-back was immediately transported to hospital by paramedics, where he spent the night.
After undergoing surgery on Monday, Golec will return to the Central Coast later this week to complete his rehab.
Unfortunately, Golec will play no further part in the Hyundai A-League 2017/18 Season.
“I just want to say a big thank you to all of the Mariners fans and football fans across the A-League who have taken the time to send me messages of support,” Golec said.
“The amount of support I’ve received from fans, staff and players across the whole A-League has been overwhelming, so thank you to everyone who has contacted me, it means a lot,” Golec said.
We wish Antony all the best on a speedy recovery and know he will be back, stronger than ever!
