Antonis extends stay in Sky Blue

Sydney FC’s Socceroos representative Terry Antonis has signed a new two year contract, keeping the young midfielder at the club until the end of the Hyundai A-League 2016/17 season.

Antonis has become a crucial cog in the Sky Blues squad and his pairing with Serbian Milos Dimitrijevic has seen the duo drive the team forward this season.  His retention at Sydney FC will see him continue to develop under Coach Graham Arnold as he looks to continue to become a regular pick for Socceroos Coach Ange Postecoglou.

The 20-year-old has made over 50 appearances for Sydney FC since his competitive debut in the 2010/11 season and is developing a trademark for the spectacular strike, having found the back of the net four times in a Sky Blues shirt, his most recent a long range effort against the Central Coast Mariners.

Sydney FC Head Coach Graham Arnold said he was pleased to be re-signing Antonis and is keen to see the youngster excel.

“Terry Antonis is an exceptional young talent and I’m pleased to have secured a player of his calibre to Sydney FC for another two years,” he said.

“As the biggest club in the country we need to have the best players and I believe Terry is well on his way to becoming one of Australia’s top midfielders.

“I’m looking forward to working with Terry for a further two years and I hope to see him reach his potential with Sydney FC.”

Having signed on, Antonis said he can now focus solely on the matches ahead as he looks to continuing to improve under Coach Arnold and his staff.

“I’m thrilled to be extending my time with Sydney FC,” Antonis said.

“I’m glad to be able to concentrate on playing now and I’m keen to develop even further under Arnie and the team.

“Sydney FC are the only Hyundai A-League club for me, they have always been there for me much like a family and it’s a hugely enjoyable place to play football.

“There was never any hesitation when the offer came through and I’m confident I can achieve my goal of winning trophies here.”

The Sky Blues are next in action on Saturday 22nd November as they travel to Victoria to face Melbourne City at AAMI Park (kick off 7:30pm).
