Wellington Phoenix coach Paul Temple has revealed captain Annalie Longo is undergoing treatment in hospital after suffering a facial injury during their 1-0 defeat to Newcastle Jets.
Chasing down a ball in the 90th minute, Longo collided with Jets defender Claudio Cicco whilst challenging for the ball.
Replays subsequently revealed the ‘Nix skipper caught an accidental elbow to the face from her opponent, with Temple confirming the early diagnosis looks to be serious.

“No, it’s not good,” said Temple when speaking about his captain after the game.
“Unfortunately she’s taken a pretty hefty whack to the face, so there’s a bit of blood and dizziness, and she’s in a bit of a bad way.

“(The) Doctor sort of feels that it’s probably some sort of fracture around the eye socket but she’s in the ambulance on her way to hospital and and we’ll drop in (to see her) on the way.
Temple continued: “We’re heading back to Sydney tonight to stay in Sydney, obviously, through to Unite Round so we’ll hopefully find out more when we get to the hospital, which is just outside of Sydney.”

The Phoenix now find themselves bottom of the Ninja A-League after the 1-0 defeat to Newcastle Jets.
Cassidy Davis’ stunning strike in the 70th minute proved to be the difference between the two sides forcing Temple and his staff to go back to the drawing board following their third loss of the season.
Wellington Phoenix kick off Unite Round on Friday November 22 with a clash against Adelaide United at Leichhardt Oval.
